News 1: The statistics of foreign merchandise trade released by the Statistics Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government on the 27th of this month show that in January 2023, Hong Kong’s total imports and exports were down by 30.2% and 36.7% respectively. 

News 2: In 2023, nearly 10 enterprises will be put into the new production lines. If all of them are put into production as scheduled, it is estimated that the national titanium dioxide production will reach 6.23 million tons in 2023. Together with the titanium dioxide production capacity outside China, the global titanium dioxide production capacity will exceed 9 million tons.

What is the global demand for titanium dioxide? According to the relevant industry data in 2022, the global demand for titanium dioxide is about 5.5 million tons. Then we have reason to judge that the new production capacity will definitely restrain the price of titanium dioxide.

In the first half of 2023, the economy is still relatively weak, the demand for release is less than expected, and the price of titanium dioxide will even fall sharply. But this is far from the truth.

With the liberalization of the epidemic policy, all walks of life have ushered in recovery and hope, and have begun to purchase goods and sell them with orders one after another. However, strange things have happened in the coating industry, and the prices of raw materials such as titanium dioxide, MDI, and TDI have risen and fallen together. At a certain point, people have to wonder whether these enterprises are suspected of monopolistic price increases.
